The Long Buckby Group

The group was established by our Instructor, Paul Carter, who has held classes around the Daventry and Long Buckby area for the last 20 years.

Yes, it’s a Martial Art

Firstly, we’re completely comfortable with the fact that Tai Chi Chuan is primarily a martial art and during the Form you are fighting imaginary enemies.

More importantly perhaps, assuming you’re not attacked by invisible assailants, we learn to control our body movements, breathing and qi. All these things useful in a fight, but also highly beneficial in most other aspects of life.

Acknowledging the martial roots of Tai Chi brings meaning to the movements in the Form. Some students find that this in turn makes them easier to remember and the stances feel more positive.

If this doesn’t work for you, don’t worry, you’re not going to have to fight anyone, our classes are very restained.

But with a sense of humour

Our classes aren’t run like a military boot camp, they’re very informal.

We don’t have a uniform, but feel free to wear one if you like, or follow any formal grading. We play entirely for the love of it, and if you can get fitter and more relaxed in the process, what’s wrong with that?

We try to be flexible in addressing the goals of each member, providing a diverse range of activities within the basic structure of the class.
